Technical Specifications of Photovoltaic Ribbon

PV Ribbon is an important part of photovoltaic systems so its specifications are important to the function, efficiency, and longevity of solar panels.

Specifications include:

Yield strength: Yield strength is the minimum amount of stress required to permanently deform the PV Ribbon. This is an important specification because if yield strength of the PV Ribbon is too high it can put large amounts of stress on the panels themselves leading to broken panels. When selecting a PV ribbon it is best to find ribbon with sufficiently low yield strength for the panel thickness. The thinner the panel the lower the yield strength desired. For instance, it is best to find a PV ribbon with a yield strength that is below 80 Mpa for modern solar cells that are 160 to 180 um thick.

Elongation: A higher elongation is more effective for PV ribbon because the higher ductility will better withstand contraction and expansion cycles due to outdoor temperatures. When selecting a PV ribbon it is best to look for elongation that is at least 20% or as high as possible for greatest PV ribbon reliability.

Quality Energy Response

Smaller width

  1. to avoid sacrificing cell yield
  2. to enable 4-6 busbar cell solutions

Softer material

  1. To avoid causing stress in the soldering process
  2. To enable usage of thinner wafers
  3. To reduce electrical resistance

Straighter material

  1. To get out the full power of the module
  2. Usable also in large thin-film applications
